Go to: General Ledger > Programs > GL Report Categories.
In the grid view:
Balance Sheet Order: Assign unique numbers to liability/asset accounts to set their order on the balance sheet. Use the same number to group accounts as retained earnings.
Income Statement Order: Assign unique numbers to income/expense accounts for their order on the income statement. Leave blank for liability/asset accounts.
Subtotal Description: Enter a description (up to 60 characters) for each major category, which will show as group labels on the balance sheet and income statement.
Highlight Mode: Use this option to highlight specific totals on reports.
Creating a Minor Category:
When creating a GL account, it must be assigned to both a Major and Minor category (otherwise, the balance sheet may not balance).
Select the Major category and go to the Minor category tab.
Scroll to the bottom and create a new entry.
Naming Minor Categories: Use the company number (CO#) and GL account number for naming.
Assigning Balance Sheet and Income Statement Order: You can assign these for minor categories as well.
Assign GL Account to Major and Minor Categories:
Go to: General Ledger > Programs > GL Chart of Accounts.
Select the Part # for the GL account and go to the Instances tab.
Find the GL account and:
Press F4 in the Major Category field to select.
Press F4 in the Minor Category field to select.
