Using Crafts and Classes to Set Pay Rates and Deductions

  • Purpose: Crafts and classes help set pay rates, deductions, and liabilities for many employees at once.

  • Union Contractors:

    • A craft represents a union.

    • A class represents employee levels within the union (e.g., Journeyman, Foreman, Apprentice).

    • Class settings determine pay rates for craft employees.

  • Non-Union Contractors:

    • Crafts and classes are optional but can still standardize pay rates, deductions, and liabilities.

  • Job-Specific Overrides:

    • You can create craft templates or craft class templates to adjust pay, deductions, or liabilities for a specific job.

Hierarchy of Rates and Settings

  1. Crafts:

    • The most generic level.

    • Assign standard deductions, liabilities, and add-on earnings.

    • Employees are linked via the Craft field in PR Employees.

  2. Craft Classes:

    • Override craft-level pay rates, add-on earnings, or deductions/liabilities.

    • If no override is set, craft-level settings apply.

    • Employees are linked via the Class field in PR Employees.

  3. Craft Templates:

    • Override selected craft settings for a specific job.

    • If no overrides are set, craft class settings apply.

  4. Craft Class Templates:

    • Highest level of hierarchy.

    • Override pay rates, add-on earnings, and deductions/liabilities for a class on a specific job.

  • Prevailing Wage Jobs:

    • Crafts and classes can also determine rates for these jobs.
