Can I Change the Unit of Measure (U/M) on a Phase/Cost Type?

Yes — but only if certain conditions are met.

Changing U/M in JC Original Estimates

You can change the unit of measure only if all of the following are true:

  • The U/M exists in HQ Units of Measure (HQUM)

  • No change orders exist with source status Job Cost (J) or Interfaced (I) in:

    • JC Change Order Detail (JCOD)

    • PM Change Order Lines (PMOL)

  • Committed costs are zero (Total and Remaining) in JCCP (Cost by Period)

What Happens When the Change Is Allowed

  • Estimated units are reset to 0.00 if the U/M changes

  • Projection and forecast units are reset to 0.00

  • Posted and actual units are updated or reset as needed to match the new U/M

  • All unit mismatches are corrected to align with the new U/M

Pending Change Orders

Contract U/M

  • Enter the U/M for the change order item

  • If it differs from the contract item U/M, a warning appears

  • Best practice: Create a new contract item for the new U/M

    • Ignoring the warning means only dollar amounts will update in Job Cost

Estimate U/M

  • U/Ms are maintained in HQ Units of Measure

  • U/Ms must match what is set up on PM Project Phases

  • If they don’t match, a warning will display

  • This field appears only when:

    • Estimate is checked

    • Unit Price pricing method is selected

Approved Change Orders

  • The U/M defaults from the phase/cost type

  • If units were entered and you change the U/M to LS (Lump Sum), existing units are set to 0

Summary

  • U/M changes are allowed only when there is no posted or committed activity

  • Changing U/M may reset units to maintain data integrity

  • For change orders, creating a new contract item is the safest approach
