  1. Set Up in JC Contract Master:

    • Go to JC > Programs > JC Contract Master.

    • Set Bill Type to B-Both.

    • Enter a retainage percentage.

    • You can set this for all items (Info tab) or individual items.

    • If changing from T&M to Both, you’ll get a prompt—click Yes to update all items or No to update only selected items.

  2. Set Up in JB T&M Template:

    • Go to JB > Programs > JB T&M Template Setup for the contract’s template.

    • Create a Total Addon sequence below the source sequences that will have retainage.

    • Set Markup Option to R-Retainage.

    • No need to enter a markup rate (it uses the JC Contract Master rate).

    • On the Basis tab, click Initialize Basis of Addon to select which sequences retainage applies to.

    • Once bills are initialized, retainage will automatically be held based on these settings.

Releasing Retainage or Holdback on T&M Bills

  1. Prepare Progress Bill:

    • Go to JB > Programs > JB Progress Billing.

    • Create a new bill with no amounts billed.

    • Enter + or N in the Bill Number field, then tab to enter Invoice number and Contract number, and Save.

  2. Release Retainage:

    • Open JB Release Retainage. It should default to the bill just created.

    • If not, select the correct Bill Month & Bill Number.

    • Enter the amount or percentage to release and Save.

  3. Optional:

    • You can release retainage on a bill that also has billed amounts if:

      • In JB Company Parameters, the box “Allow changes to Progress Bill data when both Progress and T&M exists” is checked.
